Stephanie Naas, FNP-BC

Stephanie Naas decided to pursue medicine as a career out of a desire to help people be healthier. She knew her first love was in rehabilitation, which is why she received her first Bachelor of Science in Exercise Physiology and then a year later in Nursing. After eight years as a critical care nurse she returned to the world of academia and received her Master’s of Science from OHSU to become a Family Nurse Practitioner. She has worked in a variety of clinical settings ranging from large urban hospitals to clinics in remote areas of the Navajo Nation.

She chose to concentrate in family practice because unlike critical care, where one sees the sickest patients for a short amount of time, family practice allows providers to gather the whole health story of a person. For Stephanie, this helps her to partner with patients to create a health plan that suits each individual’s goals. Giving patients the personal empowerment to make health improvements is one of the most rewarding aspects of her career.

Stephanie believes that all human beings have the right to sound, evidence-based and thorough primary healthcare that is not discriminatory, divisive, or judgmental. She has dedicated many years to the study, research, advocating and clinical care of LGBT (lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender) youth and adults in rural communities. She is one of only two providers in the Gorge specializing  in LGBT clinical care which includes  transgender transition counseling, services, and referrals. For more information view Stephanie’s profile at:  www.glma.org

Stephanie had been looking to work in the Gorge for several years before finally making the move here from the Northern California coast. The Gorge is a perfect area for all of her favorite outdoor hobbies such as cycling, skiing, and kayaking, not to mention a great place for her indoor hobbies of pottery, and seeing live music. She wanted to work at NorthShore Medical Group because it is an organization which truly sees their employees as individuals and genuinely cares about their personal and professional satisfaction.

Dr. Witherrite believes that rural family medicine remains the ideal for the family medicine specialty. It gives doctors the ability to provide full spectrum care for patients from, obstetrics & pediatrics to geriatrics and everything stage in between.
